Technical Information Alkyton heat-resistant brush paint

Heat-resistant coating for application on new, bright or shot-blasted steel or well pre-treated, coated surfaces such as barbecues, heating systems, exhausts, etc. Heat-resistant up to a dry heat of 750°C.

ALKYTON heat-resistant coating is intended for small maintenance jobs and repairs.

Quality and properties

  • Silicone modified alkyd resin system
  • good coverage
  • Excellent adhesion
  • Resistant to high temperatures up to 600°C with short-term peak load up to 750°C

Physical and chemical data

  • Basis of the Binder: Silicone-modified alkyd resin
  • Colour: black matt and silver
  • Smell: solvent
  • Efficiency:
Theoretical: 10 - 12 m²/l. Can vary depending on colour and condition of the ground
Practical: Practical coverage depends on many factors such as porosity and roughness of the substrate and material losses during application (see DIN 53220)
  • Recommended layer thickness: 35-40 µm dry, corresponds to approx. 85 µm wet
  • Drying (at 20°C, 50% relative air humidity):
    Tack-free: after 2 hours
Dry to touch: after 8 hours
    Re-coatable after 24 hours
Full hardness: 24 hours after the minimum service temperature of 150°C is reached. Gradually heat the coating to 150°C (max. 50°C/hour.
  • Densitiy: black: 1,38 g/cm³, silver: 1,11 g(cm³
  • Solids Content: black: 40 %, silver: 47 % by volume ± 2,0 depending on colour
  • Viskosity:
    880 - 1150 mPA s (880 - 1150 cP)
  • Flash Point: 40°C
  • Temperature resistance:
up to 600°C (dry heat), short term peak load up to 750°C
  • VOC-content: 460 g/ l max.
    Category: IIA/ i
    EU Limit values: 600 g/ l (2007)/ 500 g/ l (2010)
  • Storage stability:
5 years from date of production in unopen can, if stored in dry, well ventilated areas, not in direct sunlight at temperatures between 5° and 35°C.
  • Disposal: Put only empty can into the recycling bin. Bring cans with remainders of paint to the special refuse disposal.
  • Content: max. nominal volume = 250 ml or 750 ml

Environment and labelling

Environmentally sound: European Aerosols is committed to apply formulations without restricted or critical ingredients and to achieve best possible performance. The caps and packagings are made of recyclable material.

Disposal: Only the completely emptied cans should be put into the recycling skip or appropriate container for reclaimable refuse. Cans which are not empty should be disposed off as "special refuse".

Marking/Labelling: All products made by  European Aerosols comply with the actual labelling regulations according to Preparation Guideline 1999/45/EG. All aerosols correspond to TRGS 200  and TRG 300 as well as to aerosol guideline 75/324/EWG in the actually valid version.

Using instructions

Before use, carefully read and observe the warning texts on the label!

Surface preparation:

Remove grease, oil, dirt, loose rust, loose coatings and any other contamination with suitable agents. Sand intact, old paintwork to obtain a good adhesion. The surface must be clean and dry during application.

Mixing and thinning:
The paint has to be stirred vigorously before use. Do not thin!

Application:
Apply only if the air and surface temperatures are between 5 and 35°C and the relative humidity is less than 85%. Apply with a brush. Due to the high viscosity we do not recommend application in a spray gun.

Coatable: after 24 hours. Fully cured: 24 hours after the minimum service temperature of 150°C is reached. Gradually heat the coating to 150°C (max. 50°C/hour).

Clean up of the tools: With white spirit.
